Lionel M. Riley Biography

Lionel M. Riley was born and raised in Juneau, Alaska. Mr. Riley received his Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Oregon. Thereafter, he attended Gonzaga University Law School and graduated with his Juris Doctor with honors. Mr. Riley then attended the London School Economics and received a LL.M.

Mr. Riley has considerable experience in the practice of law. He has worked on both sides of the law as a Public Defender, Plaintiff’s personal injury attorney, Deputy Attorney General, Deputy Prosecuting attorney and a Private defense attorney. Mr. Riley also has experience in many jurisdictions, both nationally and internationally.

Mr. Riley has worked as an Assistant Public Defender with the Alaska Public Defender Agency. He has worked as a Staff Attorney for the Committee on Resources and Development with the Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia. He has also worked as a Plaintiff’s attorney with a personal injury law firm located on Oahu, and was an Assistant Attorney General with the Government of American Samoa, Office of the Attorney General Prosecution Division. Mr. Riley has worked as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney with the County of Hawaii prior to opening his private practice in February 2001 in Hilo, Hawaii.

Mr. Riley specializes in the following areas of law: 

  1. Criminal Defense: traffic matters, drug cases, DUI, AFHM, felonies, misdemeanors and other criminal actions.
  2. Family Law: divorce, custody, child support, paternity, guardianship and adoption.
  3. Personal Injury: automobile accidents
